Physical Description: Chikage is OMG so tall. He makes the Jolly Green Giant nervous (standing somewhere between 6'7" and 6'10" tall).

Chikage is broad-shouldered and fit as an unidentifiable athlete. Not buff, but still strong and...looming. Honestly, he looks like a Yakuza thug. Especially the way he dresses: nice dark suits complete w/tie, and sunglasses both in and outdoors.

Chikage is very fair. The physical reason he always wears sunglasses is that his eyes have very little pigment, and are especially sensitive to light. So black hair, fair skin (for a Japanese), light brown--almost golden--eyes.

But he's no hulking thug in the looks department. Chikage could be a supermodel if he had any kind of confidence. He's beyond gorgeous to borderline beautiful. The only reason that word doesn't work is because it's a very masculine beauty. In other words, Chikage is dead sexy. And has no idea. He makes Tachibana look like day-old bread (and Tachibana is hot).

Personality: Chikage is your standard-issue big dumb sweet guy. He's clumsy as hell, overly apologetic, and very shy (the real reason he always wears sunglasses). In numerical IQ terms, the only reason he wouldn't have been put into special ed (in our world) as a child would have been because he's very sweet-natured, obedient, and calm (unlike many disabled kids who have behavioral issues as well).

Going along with this, there is a lot about Chikage that is childlike. He just doesn't operate on the mental level that average adults do. He cries easily, doesn't understand half of what goes on around him, and is very open and trusting.

For example: When he was waiting at a Tachibana party ten years ago, a crusty middle-aged woman came up to him and begged for him to donate sperm (the old-fashioned way) so that she could have a baby before it was too late. After spluttering for a while, Chikage complied (there was no physical attraction on his part--trust me). Therefore, he now has a 9-year-old daughter, Kaedeko, he very rarely sees. The only reason he is a part of her life at all is because her mother is a crusty old angry woman and occasionally dumps her child off on her father (and Tachibana) for babysitting. She has randomly done this ever since Deko was born, so both Tachibana and Chikage are kind of like her favourite uncles.

Chikage would give a total stranger the shirt off his back (or the sperm from his ----) if he had any idea they either wanted or needed it. He is gentle, kind, sweet, big-hearted, you name it.

Because of his low I.Q. and the ease with which he becomes flustered and forgets things (like a little kid), he has a lot of problems serving food in the shop (he often gets quantities and items of orders wrong, and he can never remember the details of the various sweets like Tachibana can). But because he's Chikage, the regular customers are used to it and help him out, often shouting out helpful hints to help him remember their order between the table and the kitchen.

But it's not just in the cafe that he has trouble. He's gotten Tachibana's car towed and impounded numerous times because he parks in a no-parking zone and so on.

He's also constantly running into and dropping things. If anything's remotely low enough, he's 99% certain to bang his head on it. Door frames are his mortal enemy.

So. Yeah. Big dumb sweet guy.

Strengths: Chikage is the sweetest sweetest sweetest guy on earth. Jesus invites him to tea sometimes. He's also freakishly strong, fiercely loyal and protective of those he cares about.

Weaknesses: Chikage is dumb as a box of rocks with a rusty nail rattling around in it. He has a terrible memory, but most of all he's gullible. He trusts and believes anything anyone tells him without question. Easy prey if you don't come at him from a strictly physical angle.

History: Chikage was originally a richie. His father was a successful businessman who, sadly, beat the crap out of his mom all the time. She wanted to leave him, but had no idea how to provide for herself and her son. When Chikage was about 8 (and looked 16--freakish growth hormone in his genes which was passed on to Deko), she confessed this to him, and he vowed to get a job and take care of her no matter what it took. He just wanted her to be safe and happy.

His mother happened to be on the outskirts of Mrs. Tachibana's social circle, and when she learned that Mrs. Kobayakawa was a battered woman, she ordered her to leave her husband and come live with the Tachibanas as their new "cleaning woman." When she died a couple of years later, the Tachibanas became Chikage's legal guardians.

Being naturally humble because he was always aware of his mental slowness, when Tachibana befriended Chikage, it was automatically a Frodo-Sam relationship. They used to play samurai as kids, and Chikage was always the page. This made him form the habit of addressing Tachibana as "my lord" which he does to this day.

Because they grew up in the same house and sleepovers were easy to do, Chikage was there on the nights Tachibana would wake from his night terrors. Chikage was there to offer comfort and hold him until Tachibana calmed down (something he STILL does), but was only allowed to do it so long as he didn't tell anyone about it.

Chikage has never told anyone about it.

With Tachibana's help (tutoring and sometimes doing his homework for him), Chikage was able to graduate college (though it took him three years to find a university that would accept him). Since then, he has been following Tachibana everywhere like a faithful dog.

Tachibana's family has actually asked him to do this, acting as an unofficial bodyguard, because they still worry about Tachibana as if he'd been abducted yesterday. But Chikage would do this regardless. He loves and looks up to Tachibana like an older brother (even though Tachibana is two years younger). They have been living together ever since Tachibana quit his job with the family and opened the patisserie.

When he first showed up at the shop (much to Tachibana's chagrin), Ono was struck with love/lust at first sight for Chikage.
